Introduction to Game Art (online)

Vancouver Film School presents an online training workshop designed to teach you how to model and texture 3D artwork in Maya and Substance Painter, two professional software tools used by game artists in the industry. You will focus on efficiency and performance that are vital for game art. By the end of this intensive workshop, you will understand the basics of the 3D modeling game art pipeline: modelling low and high poly, UVs, baking, and texturing.

This workshop will take you through the basic modeling pipeline and have you create your own realistically textured prop, and is intended for people who are interested in learning 3D art for games, regardless of previous experience.

  • Understand the basic pipeline of high and low poly modelling, UVing, texturing, and baking.
  • Learn the fundamentals of using Maya and Substance Painter.
  • Build a 3D model and textures that can be exported into a game engine.
  • Create a render to showcase your 3D model.

  • Computer, microphone, and camera (optional)
  • Wired Internet connection (software will not operate properly using Wi-Fi)
  • Autodesk Maya
  • Substance Painter
  • Note: Your computer must be able to handle GPU-intensive baking

Students are not required to have any previous training or experience.
