VFS Game Design students win Best Student Project at 2022 Unity Awards

Meowmentum Mori was the fourth win for VFS students at the Unity Awards.

Announcement Highlights:

  • Vancouver Film School is the most nominated/winning post-secondary institution at the Unity Awards, with seven total nominations and four wins.

(VANCOUVER, B.C.) December 5, 2023Vancouver Film School (VFS) is pleased to announce that Meowmentum Mori – a game made by five VFS Game Design and five Sound Design for Visual Media students – has won Best Student Project at the 2022 Unity Awards. In Meowmentum Mori, a first-person single player speedrunning platformer, the player assumes the role of Mori – a novice catmage, who faces a series of magical trials in a pocket universe to become a full-fledged catmage.

This marks the seventh nomination (fifth consecutive) and fourth win for VFS students in this category. VFS students previously won for Pulse, Afloat, and The Cluckening. This year, VFS students were nominated twice for Best Student Project; also nominated was Curtain Call, created by five Game Design students and eight additional VFS students from the Sound Design for Visual Media, Writing for Film Television & Games, and Acting for Film & Television programs.

Credited on Meowmentum Mori are Game Design students Apoorv Taneja (Technical Designer/PM), Ivan Restrepo (Tech Designer/Game Designer), Pablo Moctezuma (Level Designer/Game Designer), Ivonne Medina (3D/2D Artist), and John Santana (3D/UI Artist). External collaborators include Sound Design for Visual Media students Hojune Kwak (Sound Tech/SFX), Pedro Campos (SFX/Ambience), Gordon Smith (SFX/Sound Tech), Jenny Shim (Composition), and Benji Ruiz (Composition).

Unity is the world’s leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D (RT3D) content and is used in over 50% of games across mobile, PC, and console, as well as real-time film and television production. This year’s awards mark a major milestone for Unity – 15 years since the inaugural ceremony.
